e-clectic portrait project ● art for charity's sake
...Doing fundraising stuff with famous & fascinating people and their photographs. Massive thanks to the people plastered over these pages for their kind permission (and lending their faces) to get this very spontaneous project off the ground.
...organising a charity event...over to Sally...
And now for the best bit. If you are a charity and would like to partner (and hopefully benefit!) from the auction of these portaits, please get in touch with Sally at Western PR & Events Management.
Sir Bob Geldof
Bob Geldof

According to Geldof, the practice of philanthropy is ubiquitous worldwide, but its purpose and practice varies. Today the movement he started a little over 2 decades ago has resulted in Africa being freed from debt slavery and 29 million African children are going to school as a result of this man's efforts.
And he's lent his face to my miniscule philanthropic effort. Thank you.

(Just took a phone call from someone with an American accent and I thought "Who's that at this time of night", so I was VERY cagey when they asked for Jude...turns out it was OPRAH's people! Thanks Harpo!)

When I started this project I had a little idea that i'd like to include someone from the Pop Art movement... Never thinking (in a million years) that i'd be given permission to include Andy Warhol. (Andy Warhol!) With thanks to the Warhol Foundation for their posthumous approval. I'm pinching myself actually - a "pop art" blog started just a little while ago really, now includes this man.
He did say that "Art is anything you can get away with" so i'll sign off here tonight while I still seem to be getting away with it.

(I couldn't resist doing the one below, and above...something a little more recent. Extending a big thank you to Dame Shirley for her kindness)
Mohammed Al Fayed
Mohammed Al Fayed (Small irrelevant piece of information, I ended up babysitting his daughter once because an old friend of mine who lived near them didn't want to go by herself. If you are going to get a babysitting gig, I recommend someone with access to Harrods foodhall that says to you "Help yourself to whatever you want in the fridge")
...and the Patron of the NSPCC
Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and the Patron of the NSPCC
(I was so nervous doing this. I wanted her to be red lips, white sparkles and blue eyes, the red, white and blue of the United Kingdom. So here she is, all patriotically coloured. Click on image to enlarge)

Agyness Deyn
Reppin' for Oldham, and a thrill for me to do this today - fashion industry people and me don't seem to hit it off for some "Devil Wear's Prada" type reason, but Agyness and her people were 100% outstanding. Thank you.

Banksy. (..as in "judec●re interpretation of urban art supremo" I know he's anonymous but I tracked down his PR to tell them what i'm doing...I haven't got a clue what he looks like - I just decided this picture is called "Spraycans for a Genius", so obviously that is Banksy.)

The day The Prime Minister wrote to me...

It's been a day very much like any other. Except that today I mowed my lawn and got covered in mud in the wet English autumn. It was the Labour Party Conference last week, and the Tory Party conference is in full swing this week - and I receive an envelope with "On Her Majesty's Service" printed on it, all official, and immediately wondered if I owe any taxes or have gone through a speed camera too quickly. Am having a week's annual leave and wondering who to "paint" next when this arrives...
And a most unusual thing happens. The Rt.Honourable Gordon Brown, Prime Minister, writes to me (to me!) and says that he is "delighted" to have been asked to be a part of this worthwhile fundraising project. This means, that my ridiculous notion from around 10 weeks ago (when I started this project), saying that it will come to an end if the Prime Minister or HRH Prince Charles give their permission for me to do their portraits (never actually thinking they would even acknowledge my letters) - is now fulfilled. I will do the portraits of the Prime Minister and HRH Prince Charles, then it will be phase 2... How to raise money from the artwork with the help of the NSPCC
So what has been a thrill of a thing to randomly invent and grow over the last couple of months is drawing to a close (pun intended) - I've got a few uber top-secret famous people in the pipeline that i've got my fingers crossed will still say yes, and I'll add them if the opportunity arises - (Brad Pitt that means you!). From now on I just need to do the portrait of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and put my feet up and have a nice cup of tea. Still don't know who i'm voting for in the General Election, but huge thanks to Gordon Brown for his kind letter and also to David Cameron, leader of the Opposition for his generous support. Both parties tie neck and neck with regard to the "e-clectic portrait project - art for charity's sake" part of my manifesto. Thank you.

...and here he is. The Rt Hon. Gordon Brown Prime Minister.
